Katie Scorgie, Equestrian Artist, the Forge, Hinton St Mary, Sturminster Newton, DT10 1NA
Born in 1969, Katie Scorgie is an established equesrian artist whose work is becoming increasingly sought after.
Following her passion to become an equestrian artist, Katie completed both a Foundation and a Degree in Fine Art. She has an empathetic understanding of horses as she has ridden from a young age, including a career as a point to point jockey. Therefore, it is natural for her to translate this knowledge into fine art painting. Katie captures movement, true likeness and essence of a given situation in an unsentimental way, through lively marks, brush strokes and strong drawing. She does this by addressing all aspects of the subject to capture its energy. Katie strives to make the viewer feel that they could be standing at that moment in time, as well as enjoying the make up of the painting, or drawing, in its own right. Her love of paint and subject matter is evident in equal measure.
Katie has exhibited widely since 2000 - her most notable commission to date is being one of 3 Artists in Residence to the Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment between 2011-2012, resulting in an exhibition at Hyde Park Barracks in April 2012. Katie's work has also been covered in the media and she welcomes commissions.

A SELECTION OF PAINTINGS AND DRAWINGS
All shown here are beautifully framed in bespoke hand finished frames which is included in the price.
I have completed many commissions, both in coloured and monochromatic oils as well as charcoal drawings. Subjects covered include racing scenes, hunting scenes, individual racehorses, polo scenes, dogs, hounds in action, family portraits of horses and so on. Not only do I like to capture the true likeness of an animal and/or person, landscape, but I aim to capture the essence of subject matter as well. I prefer to work from my own photographs and/or drawings taken in situ and like to get a feel for the subjects; however, it is not always essential, or possible, for example, when someone would like a portrait of a deceased pet.
As can be seen through the examples of my work on this website I like to paint or draw subjects in context, ie with a background - which works well with my style, enhancing the overall feeling of a moment in time. For me, the entire commission is just as much about the painting or drawing itself, the way the paint is applied or the way the marks are made in a drawing. Having said that, if a customer requires a painting of a horse's head with no background that is also fine - everyone's requirements are different and anything is possible!
Do give me a ring for an initial chat to discuss what you would like and I can give an indication of timescale as well.
I do require a 25% deposit and the remainder upon completion. Travel is charged at 50p per mile. I can arrange framing at an additional cost and have an excellent local framer who I use all the time. Prices for commissioned oil paintings start at £1,000 and for drawings £350.
