Shillingstone and District Riding Club (S & DRC)

Our events are normally held in the Shillingstone, Blandford, Sturminster Newton area, but we do venture further afield to access different facilities and instruction. The Shillingstone & District Riding Club (S&DRC for short) is affiliated to the British Horse Society and forms part of Area 17. In the spring of 1975 a small group of people met in the Portman Hall, Shillingstone with the idea of starting a Riding Club which held different types of events, both fun and competitive, some original members are still active in the Club and even on the Committee!
The Club welcomes riders and horses of all abilities and interests. Some of our members compete at affiliated competitions, whilst others are just starting out – all are able to gain skills, knowledge and experience at our range of club-based activities and events. Instruction is held in flatwork, jumping and cross country and in the summer we have regular show jumping practice sessions where the jumps can be put at whatever height is right for you and your horse or pony. Over the years many members have represented the Club at the Area 17 competitions in all disciplines and some have made it to the National Championships! The non competitive rider and the non riding member is also not forgotten with pleasure rides, mini trek sessions, mock hunts, BBQs, club nights, pick ‘n mix weekends and any excuse for a party!

Just a little information about the instructors we use, to help you make your decisions about which clinics you'd like to attend. All our instructors are friendly, approachable and are there to help you improve your riding, your horses way of going and enjoy the lessons at the same time!

Moira is BHSII qualified and has ridden under British Eventing, British Showjumping and British Dressage rules.
She has over 25 years of experience teaching all ages and abilities over jumps and on the flat.

A very patient instructor especially with nervous horses and /or riders.

Lynn is BHSI qualified and a BD List 2 judge who is very much in demand!

With many years of teaching experience at all levels, Lynn has developed a way of explaining things to a rider that makes it simple and has a way that will appeal to everyone from nervous novices to experienced competitors.

Gilly is BHSI qualified and an event and dressage rider, having qualified for Regional and National Finals and competed to PSG level.

Gilly specializes in the overall performance of horse and rider. Having spent many years training with horses and riders of all levels in a variety of disciplines, her empathy for horses is very apparent.

She believes in the "Big Picture" and that there is more to teaching than just giving a lesson. The horses well-being is of paramount importance and factors such as diet, foot balance, well fitting tack and a good stable management regime, will undoubtedly improve performance.
